Bottles and Butterflys

One of my hobbies is collecting decorative perfume bottles. or really, any interestingly shaped/coloured bottle or glass trinket. But I do focus on bottles. It started when I was very young and was out with my grandfather. We stopped to look in the window of a jeweler and I was fascinated by the perfume bottles. He took me back there to choose my favourite as a gift a little while later! I was so happy, and it started a big collection interest for me.
The little red and gold one on the right, was the first one.
Front and centre in the photo is the newest addition to my collection, a gift from Harry, my butterfly perfume bottle! Isn't it wonderful?

This hobby is why two of my dream dresses are Metamorphose Perfume Bottle print;
And the ever popular Rose Toilette by Angelic Pretty.

Another of my favourite motifs is butterflys. Meta struck again with Jewel Butterfly. I absolutey fell in love with it's wonderful gem tones and bewjeweled appearance, but sadly, didn't get one of my own (yet?).

This dress is high on my wish list, it's so sad that it never seems to appear for sale.

Recently, Bodyline came out with a new print called "Magical Cosmetics", which features both butterflys and perfume bottles! It even has small jewels involved in the print.
It may not be one of my Wish List items, but I wont let it get away!

What are your favourite motifs?

Daily Dorian

A daily dandy outfit this week. I dressed to match my man this time, and a fine pair of dandies we made.However, it occurred to me while getting dressed that we look not unlike Dorian Grey and Lord henry from the latest movie version of the Picture of Dorian Grey!
Only a slight resemblence mind you, but I am, like most good victorian goths, a bit of a Dorian Grey fangirl.
After showing Harry (my boyfriend) some pictures, he agreed to indulge me by shamelessly imitating this picture here;
Do you see it? A little bit?

Fellow Blogger; Fashion Philosopher

A couple of days ago now, I met an aquaintance of my boyfriend's in the city centre. We hadn't met before, so I was surprised to find out he'd mentioned me in an article on his blog!

He had, presumably spotted me the day I was wearing this outfit: Goth In Spats

The actuall passage, as taken from the article goes like this;

"A third was the female companion of an acquaintance of mine. She wore a black gothic lolita style dress, black tights, and calf-length white military gaiters, a fashion accessory in recent years employed by the Steampunk designer Kate Lambert, also known as Kato. All of these clothing choices could be labelled Neo-Victorian or Steampunk."

The article itself is a very interesting read and a lot of the philosophies spoken about are ones that hold true for many gothic lolitas.

You can read it here, on The Evil Dandy "Walk like a Romantic, a Gentleman's Guide"

"Cosy Camper" Socks Review

Cosy Camper is a small brand of outdoor wear. They sell from a stall set up on the first floor of Buchanan Galleries shopping centre, Buchanan Street, Glasgow so hundreds of people walk past it every day, and I myself have walked past it without a second look on more occasions than I dare to count.
They recently started stocking some very cutely pattered socks, which is what caught my interest. Priced at three pairs for £12.

They have stripes and argyle and all sorts, and recently rose and other floral pattered ones.

Aren't they sweet? They also have the same patterns in many different colour options.

You can see the blue argyle ones worn in my previous post "Daily Alice"

These socks are amazingly comfortable. Being made for western sized legs the pattern doesn't streach out around your calves, and the top of the sock was never too tight.
Despite that, they did not fall down.
You heard me right; these are over-knee socks that can be worn, all day, and they did not fall down!

They have a website you can buy from, for those of you who don't live in the immediate area of a Cosy Camper;

Cosy Camper Socks

Because the company is primarilly for outdoor wear, their products are comfortable and warm, and can be washed in the machine mercilessly without taking any damage.
I may never buy brand socks again.

My Lolita Bedroom

Last November I made a post about planning to re-decorate my living space in a way that was more 'me', more gothic, more lolita, more Elegant.

"Gothic Lolita Interior Decor"

I'm very pleased to say it's finally done! So here are some photos and descriptions of what I did and where these things were found, to help inspire some of you out there who are also looking into personalising their space in a similar manner.

Here, you can see my books and dolls. Most of my books are at my parent's house, the ones along this desk and bookcase are just my favourites. Even if you're not a big reader, some antique or old style books can be a lovely decorative accessory. Their big chunky covers, often elabourately decorated and that nice old-book smell. Whats not to love?

I found using my hats as decorations both approprtae and practical. They're right there, on-hand for when you want to put one on and they look very elegant too.

A bit of shameless brandwhoring here maybe, but this is the bag my dream dress Vampire Forest arrived in, and is actually a beautiful design of my favourite brand's logo.
Next, my dressing table and mirror area. The mirror itself has a beautiful vintage frame that I based the whole look of my room around.
You could probably find similar ones in antique or charity shops, but mine was a gift from my grandparents when I was very little and has a special charm to me for that.

(complete with Alice and Mad Hatter chess peice figures)
My collection of perfume bottles has come from various places. The small, bejewelled ones at the front were gifts from family and friends. The pink spray bottle and other decorative bottles have come from small shops in the city or ebay.
The doll you can see there is the My Mellody Pullip <3

Here's a shot of my bed, so you can see how the curtain falls next to it. To make that, I just went to a fabric store and chose the material I liked best for my room, and pinned it up with thumb-tacks to the ceiling. Easy peasy!
And every day I can wake up to a princessly curtain over my bed <3
The Absinthe Robette poster was purchased on ebay. It is one of my favourite peices of art from that area and I was determined to find a poster of it for my new room!

This is where I keep my necklaces, to prevent them getting tangled, cards, notes, things I need to remember and postcards. The Notice Board. It's not very Loli by design, but does it's job perfectly!
To spruce it up a little (and cover the nail in the wall) I put up the blood-splattered tulips from halloween above it.

These fake flowers were just bought from a supermarket. Real flowers can be a pest once they die, or if your pets are likely to knock over the water vase, or if someone in the house has hayfever. All of these apply to me, so I choose fake flowers.

I hope you gleaned some inspiration from all that! Or at least, enjoyed having a nosey around my room :P
Overall, I'm very happy with it but still intend to add more details and will no doubt re-arrange things in the future.

Sweet Kodona Irrational Want

The problem I find with Kodona clothing is that the sizing is just not as forgiving as Lolita. In a skirt, all you need is the waist to fit, and it to be the right length. For trousers or shorts there's a lot more important measurements you need to ensure it fits properly.
Which is why, much to my dismay, due to recent weight gain some of my kodona shorts no longer fit comfortably. Hopefully I will be able to put them up on the Sales comm and either buy something new that fits or trade for some other similar items in a better size.

Ideally, I want these 6%DokiDoki shorts. The Gothic Lolita in me is horrified. They're just all wrong! But the Sweet Kodona in me just can't resist. They're so wonderfully silly.

Music for the Gothic Lolita

While we all have our own differing tastes in music, there are some bands that appeal to the same Gothic Lolita sensibilities as our taste in clothes.
I was listening to my reccomendation radio on Last.fm not long ago, as I do when looking out for something new and fresh to listen to, and decided to make a small list of bands I consider inspiring to Gothic Lolita style.

Rasputina;
Well known and popular, Rasputina are a cello rock band whose songs all have a victorian ilk.
My personal favourite of theirs is "Hunter's Kiss"

Cinema Strange;
I discovered this band through the major Gothic Lolita blog "fyeahlolita.com"
My favourite amoung their songs is "En Hiver"

Their style reminds me a little of The Birthday Massacre and other old, 'original goth' bands from the 1980's.

Evelyn Evelyn;
Reccomended to me by Last.fm radio, and I fell in love immediately. They have the most amazing story;
"Evelyn Evelyn are a duo discovered in 2007 by Amanda Palmer (of The Dresden Dolls) and Jason Webley. The duo consists of two conjoined twin sisters, (“Eva” and “Lyn” aka) Evelyn and Evelyn Neville. The twins are actually portrayed by Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley. During the live show the twin is supported by their master of ceremony Sxip Shirey."

I adore their version of "Love will tear us apart", already a favourite song of mine they give it a whole new depth and beauty.

Arcade Fire;
Over the last couple of years the Arcade Fire have become really popular and entered mainstream music, which is nothing short of a blessing because it means I got to see them perform live in a massive venue shortly after the release of their second album.
They are absolutely one of my favourite bands, and here is one of my favourites of their songs;

What music suits your Lolita sensibilities? I'm always looking for new bands to listen to if you have any reccomendations!music
